Marbella: Hotel check-in at Villa Padierna

Spain - Vila Padierna Marbella - travel
I'm sitting in a small room. It is foggy. It is hot. And that smells nice. I have no idea that the weather outside has gone from bad to worse, but inside it is also completely the same, because in this luxury spa world I have wandered into, time is gone and the calm has subsided. Ahhh ...

Villa Padierna Palace Hotel, a museum hotel

We were taken on a weekend on the sunny coast in November, and even though there are 300 days of sunshine down there a year, it was not exactly this November. But something was going to happen in sad November.

So we had zoomed in on Southern Spain and found something as unusual as a museum hotel, Villa Padierna, in an area best known for sun worship. And even a hotel with a spa. Well yes, and then also Europe's longest continuous golf course with 3 x 18 holes in one, if you are into that sort of thing.

We had actually looked at their other hotel, which is a pure spa hotel, but there was no room. So we went for the palace hotel and we did not regret it. It was planned as an extended weekend.

There is a sea of direct flights from Denmark to Malaga, so just choose the one that had the best departure time on Friday morning. 4 hours later we landed in Malaga, took the bus from the airport to Marbella and a taxi the last bit up the hills behind the beach and lagoon.

And there it lay then, the palace hotel, in pink shades and columns and style ad libitum. With a room overlooking the golf courses and the garden with the statues up from a huge terrace, where the 18 degrees in November overshadowed that the sky was more gray than blue.

And where there were lemon and grapefruit trees with the finest fruits. Welcome to, it said. Now you can relax.

Nooks and crannies

The hotel in Marbella is built like a giant rich manor house. A villa. It is not that old, from the year 2000, but the style and many of the things are much older.

If you've tried to visit a big rich man's house where the details have really been taken care of and where it's still human friendly and meant to be used, you know what I mean. No matter where you looked, there were small statues, benches, cozy corners. Basins, waterfalls, fountains.

We walked for several hours Saturday morning and constantly found new things to look at and also enjoyed the view of the lagoon towards the water. And then I got time again to play with my photo apps, so pictures were taken for the big gold medal and filters and other goodies were tested.

I love such places where one can go exploring.

It is no wonder that it is a popular wedding hotel, because there is a lot of charm and things work, for the most part it is new and well thought out from the start.

We asked the sweet girl at the front desk what the wildest thing was at the hotel and she told in fluent English that their pride was Villa Obama. Named after the man himself when they were visiting. Villa Obama is 380 m2 luxury, with its own entrance behind the amphitheater and the small church.

We rolled back to our room, which was probably smaller than Obama's, but was still a large room, with a huge bathroom. With bathtub. To warm up for the really big bathing party; a trip to their spa.

Medical & Leisure Spa in Marbella

The hotel's spa has won numerous awards primarily for its many treatment options. We did not bother now, so it stood on steam baths, saunas, pools and everything in between.

We managed to spend five hours in a row in the spa area without going into dissolution, and we came out with baby skin after several times salt scrubs.

In the evening we ate in the local restaurant, which kindly and very efficiently dished up monkfish and cheese specialties, and on Sunday we simply had to go to the spa again.

After an unreasonably good breakfast in their ballroom, where I was several times asking what they had put in the scrambled eggs, so that it could taste so good, but instead just ate loose, so the belt creaked.

Spa and thunderstorms in Marbella

The weather turned out this morning from its most threatening side with thunder and tropical rain so we could lie in the pool and watch the weather gods flush the tiles clean with cascades of water right out front.

And then go in the steam room and just relax while the rain drummed on the glass roof. It was quite fascinating.

We thanked and marched from Marbella towards Malaga, which we managed to conquer on foot, while a few rays of the sun peeked out. And Monday morning at a quarter of an hour in goat we then flew back to November-Denmark, which showed itself from its most beautiful side with clear skies and high sun.

Maybe Amager should be renamed the Costa Del Sol?
