At the table with Ireland

What do you really think about if you think about food and drink from Ireland? My thoughts are definitely on whiskey, Guinness and classic Irish food with potatoes in different shades. But Ireland has actually also become a gastronomic destination with great variety in the selection of both wet and dry, and that actually applies to the whole country from north to south and east to west.

Innovative and curious star chefs and excellent local ingredients are the recipe for the Irish food revolution, and you will be amazed at what the green island - and the blue sea around it - has to offer.

We have collected some of the places in Ireland, where you get the best food and drink, just sit at the table.

Chapter One in Dublin

Chapter One is one of the absolute leading restaurants and is located in the heart of Dublin. For a Michelin-starred restaurant, their prices are affordable, which is one of the reasons why they have been added to this list. Not only can you get some of the best food you could want, it is also at a price that you can join.

The restaurant is housed in George Jameson's former home - it's him with the whiskey of the same name - which helps to make the surroundings even more unique. In the atmospheric old-fashioned setting, you will be served modern Irish food. The perfect combination.

Wa Cafe in Galway - modern Irish food

At Ireland is much more than old-fashioned Irish cooking, this restaurant is a good proof. On the west coast of Ireland lies the town Galway. Here you will find Wa Cafe, which is a fantastic sushi restaurant serving authentic sushi with local freshly caught fish. Definitely worth a trip, even if it's not traditional Irish food.

While you enjoy the delicious sushi, you have a fantastic view of the Atlantic Ocean - where the fish in front of you come from.

The English Market in Cork for homemade Irish food

There is something very special about shopping in local markets wherever you travel. The English Market is one of the places where you can do that. It is a huge food market, which has all sorts of local specialties and delicacies. Perfect souvenirs - if they reach that far…

The market is so large and so popular that it has in itself become a tourist attraction in the southern Irish city of Cork. Since 1788, the market has served as a place of purchase for the locals and thus survived famine, floods and war. Perfect place to do your shopping when you have to try to cook Irish food yourself.

Food & Cider Festival in Armagh

Every year in September, the Food & Cider Festival is held in Armagh, which is located in the southern part of Northern Ireland. Here there are stalls, pop-up restaurants, guided tours with culinary experiences, dinner on an apple orchard, tasting of the year's new cider and much more.

All the food and all the cider that is served is made from fresh local ingredients, making it a completely unique experience in Irish food. If you are one foodie, then this is definitely an experience for you.

If you still can't do without the traditional Irish dining experience, then of course you should not be fooled by it either. In it Eastern Ireland you will find an Irish pub with a thatched roof, serving all the Irish classics; today's soup with Guinness bread, whiskey jam and Irish stew. 9 dishes to try in Ireland

Ireland is a country with a wide gastronomic palette, but no one can deny that meat and potatoes are a popular staple. Therefore, it is no wonder that the first on the list of foods to be tried in Ireland is the well-known Irish stew, which basically consists of lamb and potatoes.

Another well-known dish on the culinary checklist is Dublin Coddle; a slowly simmering stew, with a few sausages or chop as an accompaniment.

The potatoes continue their triumph: Colcannon og boxy are both classic potato dishes. Colcannon is mixed with cabbage and butter, while boxty is raw potato slices mixed with mashed potatoes and then either fried on the pan or baked in the oven.

If we move from root vegetables into the world of meat lovers, then the next place on the list goes to what they in Ireland call boiled bacon and cabbage, but which we in Denmark know better as hamburger backs.

As the next item on the menu, we find black and white pudding, an Irish version of blood sausage. The difference between the black and the white is that in the white version the blood itself has been removed, but the flesh and the grains have been retained.

Ireland is, as you know, an island and therefore there should be no doubt that their fish cuisine is excellent. That is why we recommend Irish smoked salmon - smoked salmon - which is certainly also high on the favorites list.

Finally, we must venture into the world of bread and give proper space to boats soda bread og barmbrack. Soda bread is a quick-made bread that can be eaten for breakfast, lunch and dinner - and everything in between. Branbrack is a fruit bread, which is typically served for Halloween, but is so much loved by enthusiasts that it can be found all year round on the green island.
