5 Surprising Reasons To Use A Good Travel Agency is written by Jacob Gowland Jørgensen.
Why go to a travel agency?
"I book then myself". "So I'm not going on a group trip - quite frankly!". Although there are over 300 travel agencies in Denmark, there are still many who do not think of them as an option when they go out to travel.
Travel agents often tell you that they give you peace of mind when traveling, but what if you do not think you need it? Or will not pay for it?
Here are 5 reasons why you should check with a travel agent no matter what, before you book yourself. And we'm pretty sure there are a few surprises in between.
Get free extra experiences along the way
If you have control over your search engines - e.g. Momondo - you want to know that you can sneak a free stop-over on a trip. It can be up to 25-30 hours if you use Momondo, and can give you enough time to just taste a new destination on the road.
If you use a travel agent, they can often extend that time without the ticket costing extra. So instead of rushing through, for example, Amsterdam or Madrid, you can have a few good days in the interesting cities on the way out, and have the shortest possible flight connection on the way back.
Get more flexibility with a travel agent
You can often travel on a youth ticket if you are under 26 or a student under 35. It opens up a world of possibilities if you book through a travel agent, because they can sometimes secure you tickets that you can change without having to pay fees. This means that you have gained a lot of extra freedom on your journey.
If you find a cool place, then you can stay a few days extra, and if you had missed that it was rainy season, then you might be able to get away sooner.
Cheaper luggage or space than with online purchases
It can be cheaper to buy a regular airline ticket from a travel agency than online if you have luggage and seats purchased.
When it is important where you are sitting in the plane, for example because you are traveling with a baby who needs a baby cot on the wall, or if you want extra legroom, a travel agency can typically book it cheaper than you can, because they have access to some other tickets.
This also applies if you are going on the big family trip, which requires 40 kg of luggage.
Free change when the airline changes the time
The cheapest online providers of air travel earn very little on the actual journey. That's why they throw a lot of buying opportunities on top - including service.
If now you are so unlucky that the airline changes the trip to something you can not live with and you have not purchased a service package, then you will be allowed to pay for it. Of course, this is not fair because it is the airline that has changed the times or has made a definite mistake in the ticket.
If you use a travel agency that is also found in the physical world, it is not a problem because then they will arrange it for you. For free.
Cheaper tickets and hotels at a travel agency
Yes, it is actually possible to save money by going to an agency. You can sometimes get cheaper tickets because the travel agents have access to some other booking classes on flights than you have.
Economy class is not just economy class, because there are typically many different booking categories, and it is usually only the large customers - ie the travel agencies - who have access to all of them and thus also access to all the available prices.
The same goes for hotels.
When you shop as a large customer, you get some hefty discounts on hotels. It benefits you in two ways: Either by getting it cheaper than you could have gotten it yourself, or alternatively getting it for the same price, but then getting a lot of knowledge with the purchase of which hotel actually fits best for the journey.
That way, you also avoid a hotel that is undergoing a complete renovation that they just forgot to tell about, or where the pictures do not show what the hotel actually looks like.
A room is not just a room either. There are good and less good rooms of the same standard, and large customers always get the best.
In other words, you get relevant knowledge without necessarily having to pay extra for it.
A travel agency provides security and choice
And yes, in addition, you also get a dose of security on top of the hat.
If the volcano in Bali explodes, if a virus breaks out, or a hurricane clears the Caribbean island you were going to, you will not face the problem yourself.
Many travel agencies also make a number of trips directly for travelers who do not think they are going on a group trip, but would like it to be better, cheaper or more authentic than they can arrange themselves.
You can also find many new types of group travel, for example for solo travelers or singles with children. There are traveling colleges for seniors, there are yoga trips, and there are group trips where you get access to countries where you are not allowed to travel around yourself - e.g. Bhutan or North Korea.
There are trips where you can stay with nomads in the mountains, or experience an isolated island. There are trips where you can be picked up at the airport and get a personal guide who goes at your pace and focuses on what you are interested in. You can because the agencies have local contacts that are hard to find.
Even if you are only looking at price, there are several good reasons to check with a travel agent. And now that you're done, check to see if they can offer you some better options than you've been able to dust off.
A trip cannot be changed. It just has to be perfect, so that all the money and dreams we have put into the journey are fulfilled. Therefore, it is obvious to use the expertise that actually exists the many travel agencies we have in this country. No matter how you travel.
Good travel planning.
