Turkmenistan is located in Central Asia and may not be a common travel destination for most people. In this podcast we hear from Jonas and Gustav Above Borders talk about what to expect when traveling to Turkmenistan.
In the middle of the Karakum desert in Turkmenistan one finds a giant crater that burns incessantly and lights up the otherwise very dark desert. The crater was formed after a drilling accident in the 70s and still burns to this day. In this section, they are going to talk about the Gate to Hell. The section tells about what it was like to spend the night at this huge burning crater, and explains why it is there at all.
Turkmenistan is very isolated, and very few Turkmen are given the opportunity to travel out of the country - not to mention move there. In this section, Layla is invited to join the studio. Layla was born in Turkmenistan, but at the age of 9 she fled to Denmark with her family. In the section, they talk about what it was like to start her life in Denmark, and what she remembers from her 9 years in Turkmenistan.
