In these times, there is more and more focus on sustainability On the trip. The student organization DANSIC held a large workshop earlier this year with a focus on traveling more sustainably. Here was RejsRejsRejs invited as experts to their expert panel.

The workshop resulted in a lot of good ideas and advice that you can easily take with you when you travel the world. We have selected the 10 most important tips for you who want to travel more sustainably.

10 tips on how to travel sustainably

  1. Choose a destination where you can travel overland by either bus, train or by car. This means that you do not always have to take the plane. If you have to take the plane, fly directly and save on CO2 emissions.
  2. Take your own water bottle with you around sightseeing, and do the same with the coffee cup. Then you do not have to buy new plastic bottles and mugs all the time. If you do not have your own water bottle, look for water in cardboard.
  3. Use recycled bags when you go shopping. A tote bag for when you buy new clothes, or a net for when you go shopping in the supermarket. If you already have plastic bags, save them and use them again.
  4. Take the bike or walk when you go on a trip around and explore your destination. In the vast majority of big cities it is possible to rent the popular ones city ​​bikes for either a few hours or an entire day.
  5. Eat local food with locally grown ingredients, it helps the local farmers. If you are a meat eater, consider halving your meat intake.
  6. Avoid using plastic straws. Buy straws made of bamboo or stainless steel - or do not use straws at all.
  7. Use less time under the shower. An average hotel guest uses over 300 liters of water per day. Sleepover. In a luxury hotel it is about 1800 liters. Good hotel habits are a must.
  8. Choose an environmentally friendly hotel that focuses on sustainability and has an environmental policy. Find out if the hotel sorts waste and recycles it.

  9. Pick up rubbish if you see anything - both at your hotel and on the street. It means something in the long run if everyone made this a good habit on the journey.

There is a lot of good advice on how to travel more sustainably. You do not necessarily have to stay at home to protect the environment. Use your common sense - share your experiences with friends and show your children how to treat the environment with respect.
