Summer vacation in Thailand: Travel in the low season is written by Anne Marie Simonsen

Sunshine and a few refreshing drips in the afternoon

Thailand is Southeast Asia's most popular holiday destination, And it is not without reason, that Thailand attracts more than 150.000 Danes to the country annually. However, Thailand is not seen as an obvious holiday destination during the Danish summer, because it can often be rain and thunder when it is low season and the rainy season sweeps in Asia.

But luckily there are several islands to experience on your summer holiday in Thailand. The Gulf of Thailand has its very own climate and typically has more hours of sunshine than the rest of the country's bathing destinations. It's like the islands Koh Samui, Koh Phangan og Koh Tao.

If you spend your summer holiday in Thailand, you will usually be able to experience sun and a cloudless sky until the afternoon, when it will then rain for an hour. It is very rare that it rains all day, and fortunately there are plenty of activities to do on the islands, even when it drizzles a little in the low season.

For example, a café and an activity center have just opened, where you can explore the treetops in the jungle on a canopy walking tour. There are great views of the island and it can be great to get a little away from the heath of the beach.

Fewer tourists if you go on summer vacation in Thailand

If you, like me, are not into full moon parties, full backpackers and mass tourism, either Koh Phangan is known for, then another benefit of going on summer vacation in Thailand in the low season. You can visit the mentioned islands and there are almost no tourists this season.

Of course, you can't completely avoid the tourists, but compared to the popular winter months, it's almost empty. I had booked a house through airbnb with my family on the northwest part of the island Koh Samui, where we practically had the beach to ourselves. It is then equal to the ultimate luxury and the best kind of beach holiday to have your very own bounty beach.

There were a few restaurants nearby, but otherwise we headed into Fisherman's Village at Bophut to eat or shop. We were also a day off Chaweng Beach and Central Festival, which offers an evening market and an outdoor shopping center and was therefore considerably more touristy.

Great offers for you who are on summer vacation in Thailand

There was offers on hotels, tours and flights, so if you want a little more luxury for the money, then it is obvious to go on summer vacation in Thailand. Although it is tempting to book a luxury hotel for less than 300 kroner, I prefer the local, so I always book through Airbnb.

In Bangkok, we lived in a stunning modern townhouse in the thriving new district, Ari 7. It is highly recommended to get out of the areas along the Soi district, which are filled with skyscrapers and hotel chains. We lived among locals and only had 5 minutes to lots of life at the local market which was next to co-working spaces, coffee shops and modern Thai restaurants.

On Koh Samui, I lived in a house by the beach and ate at some of the surrounding hotels, which were empty of people and lots of money to save.

So jump on the plane in the low season and have your summer vacation in Thailand. Nice trip!
