Phuket Sandbox: Travel diary from the reopened Thailand

Thailand, suitcase, keep calm and go to Thailand, travel

Phuket Sandbox: Travel diary from the reopened Thailand is written by The editorial staff, RejsRejsRejs.

Welcome to the reopened Thailand

We are many who have been waiting for that Thailand had to reopen for tourism and therefore we also went on this test trip as soon as we could get going.

Thailand is just about to reopen and there are still some restrictions, but it is definitely possible to get there. There is really good control of the affairs in the southern islands, which have been opened first, i.a. Phuket and Koh Samui. Among other things. is a very large part of the population vaccinated, and there are strict requirements for hotels on hygiene if they want to be part of the reopening.

The reopening program is called "Phuket Sandbox extension", where it is a requirement that you start 7 days in Phuket before moving on. Fortunately, Phuket is a reasonably large island with many different types of places, so there is something for everyone.

Here you can follow our live diary with photos and videos from the trip, and you can see the original postings by tapping the Facebook icon on the photos.

At the end of the article there is more info on all the practical things you need to know if you want to go to Thailand for winter.

More Thailand - and all the practicalities

Thailand's official tourist site tells quite exactly what the rules are now for entry and travel around the country, and it is constantly updated, so always check here. For example, the requirements have just been reduced again as of November 1, 2021, so you only have to stay 1 day at a self-selected SHA hotel before you can travel to many other places in Thailand, and there are also clearly fewer tests before we had on the trip. Most places in Thailand are now also open to Danes, not just Phuket and the southern islands.

You must be aware that everything is controlled by both the airline, transit country and the Thai tourist authorities, so you must have control of all the paperwork from home, and remember to print it as well, incl. eg evidence of vaccination and testing.

You can get more tips for all the practical paperwork and more about the situation in the country in this informative article, written by Veigo Kell, with whom we traveled, and in this fine article, written by Kristina Stalnionytė, with whom we also traveled.

You can experience more of the atmosphere of Thailand in these live videos from the last two hotels we visited:
