Fanø: Full speed ahead

Fanø - city house islands denmark - travel

Af Tine Tolstrup

Wind on Fanø

With cozy villages, incredibly cool Wadden Sea nature and a large selection of activities, it's hard not to become a bit of a fan of Fanø.

We threw ourselves over 'block art' - one of Fanø's many wind-dependent adrenaline kicks. The beach on Fanø's west coast is several hundred meters wide. Across the beach, carts and boards whiz in all guises, and they are speeding up to that extent.

Adrenaline and wind in the hair

Blokarts is, as the name might suggest, go-karts with a windsurfing sail. After a brief instruction on something with 'up against the wind', 'parallel to the wind', 'slack line' and 'tight line' we were a bit confused. But nonetheless, we were completely ready.

We therefore threw ourselves into it, roared up and down the beach, screamed and laughed, toppled a few times, and yes, all in all had a terrific hour. A definite recommendation if you come past Fanø and like wind in your hair.

In search of more adrenaline, we also took a walk past Fanø Klitplantage, which invites to long walks and tranquility in the forest. In addition, fortunately there was also an excellent mountain bike trail, which we whizzed through.

End the day right

Later - to get your heart rate and temperature down again - it is clearly recommended to take a walk and enjoy an ice cream in one of Denmark nicest villages, Sønderho. If you are looking for something other than ice cream, then it is clearly recommended to settle down at the cozy Fanø Brewery with the cold creative beers at the northern end of the island.

But even if time disappears quickly in good beer company, do not forget to get out to the beach again at low tide. There you can walk several kilometers along the flat and dry seabed and be lucky to see some of the several hundred seals that live around the island.
