Orø: Another world, close to the city

Orø - Denmark - sheep - travel

Orø: Another world, close to the city written by Sarah Steinitt

Odyssey

As part of our "Ødyssé", we have met many Copenhageners who want to go out and experience the Danish islands, but who think that it is still too expensive, too time-consuming and too difficult to get out to sniff for island life. If you are one of them, Orø is the answer. In less than an hour you can put the noise and bilos of the capital behind you, drive off on the motorway, spend 5 minutes on a cozy, small tow ferry and vupti, then you are on Orø.

With its 4 × 6 kilometers, Orø has a fairly manageable size, which makes the island ideal for cycling, just as a larger system of "footpaths" makes it possible to walk along the beautiful coast, find some of the coveted island tranquility and look towards Holbæk. , which suddenly seems a bit like another world.

Orø - now with a brewery

With its 900 inhabitants, Orø is its own small community. A society that people are moving to at the moment. Things are under construction. The inn is being restored; the local brewery plans to expand even before its 1 year birthday, and with a rich association life, the island buzzes with activities over the summer. However, there is nothing busier than that the nice Orø residents have plenty of time to talk to curious types, and you quickly get a few good anecdotes if you stop at the brewery or one of the many galleries that are scattered across the island.

So if you as a Copenhagener want to experience a bit of life on the Danish islands, breathe fresh air in beautiful nature and have a free Saturday, then you should go to Orø.

It's actually quite easy.
