Austria Hohe Salve Hopfgarten Travel

A market town in Tyrol

Hopfgarten im Brixental, which is the town's official name, is a cozy market town in the Austrian state of Tyrol. The city has 5.500 inhabitants and is 622 meters above sea level havets surface surrounded by the Austrian Alps. The city's location makes it perfectly suitable for an active holiday. With skiing in the winter and hiking and cycling tours in the summer, the city can be visited all year round.

Austrian charm

With its idyllic Tyrolean atmosphere, Hopfgarten is a cozy town to stroll around. The town houses many older charming buildings with beautifully maintained facades.

Although the shopping opportunities are not what attracts the tourists the most, there are still exciting shops and stores. Restaurants and cafes can be found both in the center of the city and along the mountains. The opportunity to eat your fill of Austrian delicacies or go après-ski, therefore, should not be looked for long.

Slopes in long lanes

There are plenty of slopes. In fact, there are so many slopes that in terms of kilometers it corresponds to the distance from Brande to København. Yes, it is good enough, because here are 283 kilometers of slopes you can frolic on. The area is also known for its many child-friendly slopes; even their lifts are child friendly.

Austria Hohe Salve Children Hopfgarten travels

Lots of kids activities in Hopfgarten

Some of their chairlifts have built-in sensors, which detect whether it is a child who must use them and therefore adjust the height of the lift before the child sits down.

In other lifts, they have deliberately made alternating chairlifts and gondolas, so that the ski schools can use the gondolas and have all the children with them at the same time. On the square in Hopfgarten you will find childcare, ski kindergarten and various ski schools.

Austria Hohe Salve Hopfgarten paragliding travel

For those who want height and speed

Need a little more action on, then there are plenty of activities that can be arranged from Hopfgarten; including paragliding or a hot air balloon ride over the beautiful countryside.

If you need more speed than that, you can whiz down specially made toboggan runs, where you drive among the many spruce trees down the mountain. Of course, you must not deceive yourself for a day in Westendorf either fun park, where you can hone your tricks or just be extremely challenged on new ones.

Culinary experiences in the snow

Should the hungry announce its arrival, there are no less than 81 restaurants in the area - including the two in the photos above. If you want to eat outside and enjoy the good weather, Kaiser Lounge is a good choice with both local and international cuisine.

Should the experience be a little out of the ordinary, we can recommend booking a table at Alpeniglo, where the entire restaurant is built of ice cream. Alpeniglo also has a bar and even an igloo hotel where you can stay overnight and get up close to nature and the beautiful starry sky.

Stay with good views in beautiful surroundings

Particularly recommendable is Hotel Leamwirt, located about 6 kilometers outside the city center. The hotel is located in a more private setting and has a modern Tyrolean style. With either a balcony or terrace in the rooms you can enjoy the good mountain views.

The hotel offers a spa with sauna and an outdoor pool, which is heated in winter. There is entertainment several times a week and for the little ones there is a playground outside. During the winter, tobogganing and cross-country skiing are also available at the hotel. If you want to enter the city, you can walk or cycle in the summer, while in the winter you can take the bus.

The editors were invited on a press trip in February. The trip was arranged by Tourism Association Ferienregion Hohe Salve.

Christian Brauner

I love to travel and I travel as often as the opportunity presents itself. I got my passion for travel already as a child, where my parents took my sister and I out into the big world.

My travel experience ranges from the classic city breaks in Europe, over road trips in the US, to backpacking in Asia and Australia.

Experiencing new cultures, unique nature and different societies, where people live very differently from life in Denmark, is what drives my desire to travel.
