The man behind the lens

Jesper Frank is a member of The Travelers' Club and also a very skilled photographer who likes to document his travels. With RejsRejsRejs we have been lucky enough to be allowed to share ten of his travel photos, although it was difficult to choose. You can see the photo series below and get an insight into Jesper's experiences in the form of small glimpses from the outside world.

Peter Frank - Burma - temples

1. Travel photos: The temple plain at Bagan, Myanmar (Burma)

One of the first travel photos in the series is the impressive temple plain at Bagan i Myanmar. The plain stretches over 100 square kilometers and once housed more than 13.000 temples. In the course of time, however, many have been destroyed, and today you will find only 2300 left.

But that does not make the Tempelsletten a less impressive sight. These historic buildings are a testament to the country's Buddhist faith, which is still practiced by the majority of the country's population.

Elderly man covered in colors, Nepal

Smile, you are on!

You can't help but smile at this beautiful image of an elderly gentleman in brightly colored face paint. Colors are something that is both cultivated and has great importance Nepal, and much of it is rooted in religion.

This is especially seen every spring when the Hindus celebrate Holi, also known as the Festival of Colours, where the participants are showered with red, yellow, blue and green color powder in a divine intoxication.

3. Kinkaju-ji – the Buddhist Golden Temple in Kyoto, Japan

The beautiful, gold-plated temple, Kinkaju-ji, is probably one of the most well-known motifs when it comes to travel photos from Japan. But that doesn't make it any less special.

The iconic monument dates back to the year 1397. Despite the fact that it has been exposed to fire on several occasions, and almost burnt down, the temple has today been rebuilt and is believed to be very close to the original building.

When the sun shines, the golden facades are reflected in the large lake, creating an incredibly beautiful motif. It is therefore not surprising that many visitors and especially photographers are drawn to the Kinkaju-ji temple in Kyoto.

4. Travel photos: The sun shines over Ilulissat, Greenland

You can almost feel the peaceful atmosphere that rests over Ilulissat at the moment the picture was taken. The beautiful contrasts between the dark orange soil and the ice blue mountains in the background make for a nice play of colors and show Ilulissat from its most beautiful side.

When you also see the sun's soft rays reflected beautifully in the still water, you can easily understand why the photographer chose to freeze this moment in Ilulissat.

Greenland and Ilulissat is without a doubt a fantastic and scenic country both to experience and not least to take travel photos in.

5. Two young Masai, Tanzania

Many may associate Masai with red, brightly colored clothes. But getting there is a journey – a journey from child to adult, from young boy to man. The different phases that the Maasai go through in life are marked by clothing.

These black fabrics and the white face paint indicate that the two young boys are no longer just boys, but have left childhood to prepare to one day become Maasai warriors.

It is so interesting to see the world in travel photos and how other people live their lives - and here in Tanzania. A life which can often be very different from the everyday life we know ourselves.

Jesper Frank - Kangerlussuaq - Greenland - Ilulissat

6. Travel pictures: Animals are pelted in Kangerlussuaq, Greenland

Some may think that this image may seem violent, and why is it on the list? The picture was chosen because it gives an authentic insight into the life of Greenland.

It is well known that Greenland and Kangerlussauq in particular attract many hunters from near and far who come to the area to kill musk oxen and reindeer.

At the same time, many Greenlanders also make a living from hunting themselves, which is why the pelting of animals is not an unusual sight when traveling around the beautiful and fascinating country.

Jesper Frank - Macchu Picchu - Peru

7. View of Machu Picchu, Peru

This view of an impressive piece of history can take most people's breath away – literally! Machu Picchu is located over 2000 meters up in the Urubamba valley, Peru. The old Inca village was founded back in the 1400th century and was possibly only inhabited for 150 years after that.

It is not known why the city was abandoned.

The forgotten city is shrouded in mystery and beautiful white mountain clouds. It is possible to get there by train, but if you are up for adventure, you can choose to take the four-day trekking route up the mountain.

Jesper Frank - Sisimiut - cliffs - Greenland - travel photos - Ilulissat

8. Travel photos: Calm day in Sisimiut, Greenland

The last rays of the sun hit the colorful houses in Sisimiut, which translated has the charming meaning: "Those who live by the fox dens". The raw area seems peaceful, and the red, yellow and blue houses break the otherwise bare and gray landscape.

The city is the second largest in Greenland, and has an interesting story behind it. The area where the city is located has housed many different peoples for well over 4500 years.

Today, many of the residents are descendants of the Thule people, Danes and some even of Inuit, who were the original people of Sisimiut. And as you can see in the picture, it is undoubtedly worth a visit.

Jesper Frank - Kangerlussuaq - Greenland - dog sled - snow - Ilulissat

9. Dog sledding in Kangerlussuaq's frozen surroundings, Greenland

This picture from a dog sledding trip in Greenland is both peaceful and action packed at the same time. The bright red clouds that lie like a light veil across the sky and the plush dog rear ends make one sigh lightly.

Another other truth is that there are most likely also frozen fingers and a roaring sound of the sled rumbling across the frozen snow landscape.

But you happily take this with you as a photographer who is out to take wild travel photos - and who wouldn't want to join the sleigh ride here in such beautiful surroundings? At least that's what we'd like here at the editorial office.

Jesper Frank - masai - tribe - Tanzania - travel photos

10. Masai performs the traditional jump dance, Tanzania

The last photograph in the series of travel photos was taken in Tanzania. Here a Masai is seen practicing the traditional Adam, which is also called the jumping dance.

This is done by the tribe standing in a semi-circle, after which young Masai warriors take turns taking their place in the middle. Here they jump as high as they possibly can, while the body must be kept as straight as possible.

It might sound like a somewhat strange tradition. But to see a Masai effortlessly lift half a meter into the air like a spring is undoubtedly an impressive sight.
