Prepping so you don't run out of money – even when traveling

prepping has become a national sport, because we have to ensure that we can cope if the systems around us go down. Electricity, water and of course the payment systems, which we tried when NETS went down just during the summer holidays, which created quite a bit of chaos all around for many Danes – both at home, but also among those who were traveling.

Therefore, there is also new guidelines have been issued for how we should prepare and be ready with our payment methods, and it also affects your vacation, so you avoid running out of money on the trip.

It is of course about currency and cash, but also much more than that, and if you are to believe the banks' figures, today very few traveling Danes can meet all the guidelines.

Though The National Bank has announcedWhile most stores and pharmacies can now handle longer outages, this does not apply to all types of cards, nor to all locations. It also does not apply in all countries.

So here are 5 things you need to know to prepare for your trip. And once you have them figured out, you can relax again.

Tips Tips Dollars Travel, prepping for the trip

5 steps: What you need to know to prepare for your trip

1) Cash: Always make sure you have some cash in the local currency – and keep a backup in a few different places, e.g. a hidden place in your suitcase or backpack, and preferably both small and large bills.

2) Always carry at least one credit card. And no, your VISA or Mastercard is not necessarily a credit card. They are often listed as debit cards, which cannot be used if the payment systems go down or to reserve a car, for example, so check your cards carefully.

3) Always carry three physical payment cards of different types. Among the three cards, you should always have one that goes to a different account than your primary bank account and preferably to a different bank. An easy way is to create a Revolut card or similar, which is free and online. If your own bank account is blocked, you have access to another source.

4) Set up all your cards for payment on your mobile and have your travel companion do the same. If you are traveling alone, you may want to consider bringing a working mobile phone as a backup. And take control of your mobile data, so you are sure to have access.

5) Get them Mobile Pay Apps, you can, and preferably also local solutions that only work in the countries you are traveling to. It is not always possible for you as a traveler, but sometimes it is possible.

If you master the 5 steps and start preparing, you will be much better prepared on the financial front for breakdowns and accidents both in Denmark and abroad.

But money alone doesn't do it. That's why we've put together the ultimate holiday checklist, so you avoid stress at the airport and problems along the way and get an even better travel experience.

Have fun with yours travel planning and prepping for the trip. And have a good trip.
