First step: Where to move?

The very first question you should ask yourself when moving abroad is where to move to. Do you have a dream of going to school in Stockholm or Sydney? Working from a tropical island with your feet in the pool on Bali or Bora Bora? Or is it a move abroad to work in scenic surroundings in Nepal or New Zealand?

No matter where you want to move, it is important that you do a lot of research of your desired destination and find out if it will be the right place for you to move to. If you have the opportunity, it is also a really good idea to go there in advance, so you can get a good impression of the culture, atmosphere and surroundings.

Isn't it expensive to move abroad?

Before you embark on the big move, it's a good idea to find out if you can actually afford it. There is not much fun about living in another country if you do not have the opportunity to experience what it has to offer. Therefore, be sure to examine the economic conditions in the country and make a budget.

It can be really difficult to know which posts to write on and how much to expect to spend on the various posts, but here a quick google search can often be of great help.

You therefore need to familiarize yourself thoroughly with the rules of the visa and make sure to comply with all the requirements to ensure that you can be allowed to stay at your desired destination.

The visa process can be confusing and lengthy in some cases, but it is unfortunately central to getting you going. If you are in doubt about anything in the application process, you can often contact the national authorities who can be helpful. Pack easily and wisely - move abroad with as little as possible

Depending on where you are going, how long you are going to be away and whether there are any rules for how much you are allowed to bring, it may be advisable to bring as little as possible. If you go ashore, you can buy by far most things, and if you go to a developing country, you will probably find that you prioritize material goods differently.

When you move abroad, you will most likely experience that things do not work in the same way as they do in Denmark. Before you leave, it is therefore a good idea to familiarize yourself with practical things such as working and school conditions, banking, housing, insurance, doctor and transport.

It is a good idea to talk to, for example, your doctor and dentist before departure, so you are absolutely sure to have the right ones vaccinations, that you complete any course of treatment and have the right medicine and braces with you, so that you avoid expensive bills for treatment abroad where they do not know your history.

You probably will not be able to plan it all from home, but you make it much easier for yourself by being well prepared. Also, make sure you know exactly what to do when you land in your new country. You should familiarize yourself with the local laws, rules and norms in advance.
