Lake Baikal

Lake Baikal is the largest, oldest and deepest freshwater lake in the world and is located in southeastern Russia. The lake was formed by an earthquake 25 million years ago, and due to its isolated location, it has its very own freshwater fauna and flora that is not found anywhere else in the world.

The nearest major town is 40 km away from the lake, which means that the nature around Baikal is pristine beautiful and ideal for hiking or trekking.

Russia Kamchatka volcano travels

3. Kamchatka

Kamchatka is a volcanic peninsula located in the very easternmost part of Russia next to the Pacifichavet and has Russia's most magnificent and dramatic scenery. The peninsula is the size of New Zealand, but only has a population equivalent to Aarhus, as the majority of the island consists of over 100 volcanoes, 22 of which are active.

The peninsula is almost completely cut off from the rest of Russia, as there are no train tracks or roads connecting the peninsula with the mainland. The only way to get to Kamchatka is by plane.
The whole area has a raw nature and consists primarily of a deserted natural landscape with tundra, mountains, geysers and hot springs.

Russia - Moscow - travel

Moscow - Russia's proud capital

Russia's capital Moscow in western Russia has been the country's political, cultural and economic center for a long series of different periods in Russian history; from the Grand Duchy of Moscow, the Russian Empire, the Soviet Union and now modern Russia. This is reflected in the city today, as the city has a myriad of lavish monuments, churches, squares and statues.

Moscow is, of course, home to the iconic Red Square, which includes the Vasily Cathedral with its colorful onion domes.

With its 12 million inhabitants, Moscow is always busy, which can be clearly seen in the city's constantly busy traffic. Fortunately, the metro system in Moscow works incredibly well and is at the same time an experience in itself, as many of Moscow's metro stations are like underground museums with beautiful decoration, statues and paintings.
