Kleinwalsertal: Skiing, tobogganing and hiking in the snow af Anna Lohmann
If you are looking for a slightly more versatile skiing holiday, Kleinwalsertal is in Austria definitely just you. Here is something for you who are for the classic ski holiday, but there is also something for you who need to spice it a little up.
In addition to the ski area Oberstdorf Kleinwalsertal offers fantastic slopes, the area is also known for its hiking trails, toboggan runs and cross-country slopes.
Ski slopes, snow park and telemark festival in Kleinwalsertal
In the German-Austrian ski area Oberstdorf Kleinwalsertal there is plenty of opportunity to frolic on the slopes. There are 130 consecutive kilometers of pistes spread over the Nebelhorn, Fellhorn, Söllereck, Kanzelwand, Heuberg, Walmendingerhorn and Ifen.
There is a large selection of red, blue and black slopes, which makes it possible for everyone to participate. If you are more into cross-country skiing, 50 kilometers of tracks have also been drawn through beautiful areas and side valleys in the Kleinwalsertal.
Something for snowboarders and freeriders
If you need a little change from the ski slope, you can head to the Crystal Ground Snowpark, where there are challenges ahead for all ages and levels. Here there are a total of four types of courses: Easy Line, Public Line, Advanced Public Line and a Kicker Line.
As you can probably guess, this is the perfect place for snowboarders and freeriders to go. Should you be lucky enough to make your way past the Kleinwalsertal at the end of March, you can experience the highlight of the winter, namely the big telemark festival, which in 2020 will be held for the twentieth time with the theme “Stay wild".
Get right down to gear with a hike
In the Kleinwalsertal you can also get completely down in gear by being in harmony with nature and enjoy the snow-filled panoramic views by going for a walk in the snow.
There are over 50 kilometers of groomed hiking trails, and with a certified guide you can plan the hike that best suits you and your family. Would you like to take your hike to the 'next level', you can try a trip wearing snowshoes that allow you to both hike in knee-high snow and get past icy waterfalls.
Toboggan runs for the whole family in the Kleinwalsertal
There is plenty of opportunity to let your children or your inner child loose on one of the four toboggan runs. These four slopes are located in Mittelberg and Hirschegg.
Here you can both choose to slide down them with the classic toboggan, a sleigh or an inflatable giant hamburger or donut called a snow tube. To take the tobogganing experience up a level, try The Allgäu Coaster, which is an 850-meter sled track.
It runs at 40 kilometers per hour downhill and you will definitely feel the adrenaline pumping a bit. Subsequently, you will be transported back to the starting point by ski lift.

Pit Stops
When you need to recharge your batteries, there are plenty of places - where you can stop in for a cocoa or enjoy a good lunch. For example, try Café Walserblick, which is ideal if you are out hiking in the Heubergarena hiking area.
If you want the full panoramic experience beyond the valley, the Panorama Restaurant Kanzelwand is the perfect lunch spot. Here you are guaranteed a great view. Also try the Sonna Alp at the top of the Zafernalift lift, which has vegan, lactose-free and gluten-free dishes.
