Desert hiking, kite reunion and local gin
Anholt is the most island-like ø i Denmark. It takes three hours to sail to Anholt in the middle of the Kattegat, and it is the only place in Denmark where you can not sense any country on the horizon - no matter which way you look. There is just sea and sea and sea, just as far as the eye can see. And if you go down to the beach bar 'Oracle', you can even enjoy the horizon with your feet in the soft sand and a white russian or another good drink in hand. Mmm!
Anholt is also special for another reason. The island has Denmark's - and Northern Europe's - only desert! Here is heather in all sorts of pan colors, sand and more sand. It took us a few hours to hike the 10 kilometers through the desert before we reached the lighthouse at the tip of the island. Here you can see seals with binoculars, which some witty people have set up.
Like in other desertser you must remember to bring supplies for the desert hike on Anholt. Because you do not just pass a faucet or a small kiosk. It's truly just desert.

Waves in the blood - on holiday in Anholt you can surf
If you are the type who has surf and waves in your blood, Anholt is a paradise for you in week 30. Here is a 'kite meeting', where (almost) all of Denmark's kitesurfers flock to.
If you are more into walking and beautiful views, it is recommended to go up to the top of Nordbjerg, where you can see 10 kilometers to the lighthouse, or visit the love trail, where you can hardly avoid falling completely in love with the view.

Drinks in the Anholt style
Finally, you can not go to Anholt without tasting Anholt's latest invention: Anholt Gin! It is Jacob, who is also a teacher at the school, who brews it on juniper berries from the desert and with the particularly clean water from Anholt's subsoil. Anholt Gin can even be enjoyed pure, and that cannot be said of many gin.
A trip to Anholt is highly recommended. It is an enchanting place and one is guaranteed a real island vibe in this most isolated place in Denmark.
