Let go of your thoughts and find time to relax on a yoga retreat

Time for peace of mind, a stronger mind, a good night's sleep and a healthier body? There are few people who will turn down these glories. But how do you check things off your list? And what does it have to do with travel?

Yoga travel is the new breed, because you can tick all the good things you achieve with fitness, yoga & meditation - and that's while you're on holiday.

Take a deep breath and let go of all worries about deadlines, parent-teacher conferences and mortgages. Just focus on your breathing in the moment and feel your body. This is roughly how the very basic words will sound when you start a yoga, mindfulness or meditation class. Breathe out as worries evaporate with the morning mist over the Himalayan mountain landscape.

Repeat the calm breathing for a few hours both morning and evening, and add a variety of other exercises that stretch your muscles and connective tissue and make you relax.

If you do, there is a good chance that after a yoga retreat you will be a happier and improved version of yourself. You can simply feel the changes in both your body and your mind. These are among other reasons why yoga trips are here to stay.

But how can you get rid of all worries and thoughts? And how does such a yoga retreat work? We guide you to that right here.

A yoga retreat gives you more energy and a stronger mind

On a yoga retreat, you go with a group, and you typically get at least two teaching hours a day. One in the morning and one in the evening. On some retreats you can choose the number of hours you want. The rest of the time is set aside for relaxation, reflection, time by the pool, a good book, cultural exchange, sightseeing or whatever you feel like doing during the day.

Regardless of the number of teaching hours, the instructors' goal is to guide you in both the breathing, the exercises and the stretches, so that you can get the most out of your stay.

When you stretch out in the body's connective tissue, you can sleep through and in addition get a better blood circulation, which gives you a higher energy level. And when you breathe 'mindfully,' it is easier for both your brain and your body to relax, and you get in better touch with your mind, and can thus more easily strengthen it.

During the meditation classes, you learn to focus on the present, thus pushing all other thoughts away. You become better at focusing and learn, for example, to control possible thoughts and other disturbing factors from everyday life.

All the elements require guidance and practice, otherwise you will not get the most out of either yoga or meditation. Without exercises, it is not easy to just let go of all worries.

That is why there is always an instructor at a yoga retreat or meditation stay, and plenty of time is set aside for the individual parts. You also get some exercises and mental tools to take home with you, so you can continue the style when you're back in your busy everyday life.

A flexible yoga journey

In a busy day, where you have a lot of different things to look at, it can be difficult to travel on specific days, as most yoga meditation trips are set for. Therefore, it may be better for you to be able to travel when you have time.

If you can say yes to that, or if you just think it's exciting to organize your own yoga trip yourself instead of going along on the trips organized by the experts, you can easily plan your own yoga retreat.

For example, you can go for a specific location such as Bali, and then look for local yoga places and book a hotel next door. There are also many yoga hotels and retreats where you can book directly with the place, and thus set off on your yoga journey when it suits you.

Yoga retreat for beginners

If you are completely new to yoga and mindfulness, going on a yoga journey might sound a bit overwhelming. But don't worry, there are both yoga trips for beginners and advanced - and everything in between.

You may find a yoga retreat or mindfulness trip made specifically for beginners, but you don't have to. The instructors are skilled and they are used to guiding and teaching people of all levels, so you can easily go on a yoga retreat even if you have never tried yoga or meditation before.

What type of retreat is just you?

Yoga itself is a thousands-year-old Indian training branch that has continuously gained more and more traction with people of all age groups all over the globe.

Meditation is an ancient discipline that originated in the East, and today there are a large number of different meditation, yoga and mindfulness directions, which each have their own theory, exercises, etc. However, they all have one common main goal: to create calm and balance in your body and mind.

Therefore, there are enough styles to choose from, and you can always look around and see which form of yoga or meditation, and therefore which type of yoga retreat, suits your needs best.

Today, yoga and meditation retreats are available on all continents. Why? Because it takes much less time to achieve all the good things about yoga and meditation at a retreat where you are concentrated and not being disturbed by everyday life than during regular yoga or meditation classes in a center.

You can find yoga retreats in many different countries, for example in Spain, Indonesia, Nepal og Thailand
