Austria on the wish list - experience Salzburg on the way south

Austria is still a big favorite for Danes who like to ski, and therefore many take the trip to the Alps in the winter. But Austria is actually there for the rest of the year as well, and the country is a slightly overlooked summer destination.

If you take the car for example Italy or Croatia, then you're probably driving through Austria on the road. Here are many great places to take a break and refuel for the rest of the trip, but maybe you should consider more than a short stop. It is not only when you fly that you can take advantage of a 'stop-over' to have some great experiences on the way to something else.

The Austrian Alpine landscapes are ideal for hiking if you need to stretch your legs, just as there are cycle routes in many places - also along rivers where it does not go up and down all the way.

The cities offer impressive historical experiences and good old-fashioned cosiness with cold beers, excellent local wine or world-class cake.

Charming Salzburg - visiting Mozart

If you drive via Munich, is not far to the charming old town of Salzburg where Mozart had his home and where he is still cultivated in great style. Mozart stores are not hard to find, but the Mozart balls are somewhat cheaper in the supermarkets.

In the pedestrian streets of old Salzburg, there are strict rules for how you can decorate your storefronts, and therefore, for example, McDonald's must not use its familiar yellow and red colors to attract customers but instead invent other decorations.

Experience Salzburg in the cultural way

If you have seen and sung with the musical Sound of Music, then you probably also know the city of Salzburg from there, as it was in Salzburg, Maria and the von Trapp Family were immortalized on film. There are both arranged Sound of Music tours and the opportunity to explore with the music in your ears.

If you are even more adventurous, then a treasure hunt through the city may be for you. Salzburg's own app 'Snitzl', you can download and use to explore the city streets.

This year's big summer event 'The Summer Festival'takes place in Salzburg in July and August, and there are, among others, Strauss and of course Mozart on the program. So if you are still on your way through Europe in those days, then it is obvious to think this festival into the plans.

An overlooked gem in Europe - experience Salzburg's beautiful neighbor Halstatt

In the area Salzkammergut, which starts south and east of Salzburg, is Lake Halstatt, which appears on lists above overlooked pearls in Europe, and the area is overall impressively beautiful.

Salzkammergut is also ideal as a swimming destination, as the countless lakes are known for their extraordinarily clean water, so just take the kids with you and take a dip.

Experience Salzburg. We can at least recommend it - have a good holiday.
