A unique gem - Toadstool Rimrock in the USA

Very many Danes on roadtrip in the southwest USA driving through the city of Page, located on the border between Arizona and Utah. Page is a traffic hub for tourists who are on their way from e.g. Grand Canyon to the Zion and Bryce National Parks.

In addition, Page is known for its beautiful 'slot canyons' in Antelope as well Horseshoe Bend, which at the foot of the Colorado River enchants its audience. As if that weren't enough, Page is located on beautiful Lake Powell, where the large dam and bridge warn the drive-yourself people that they are facing something special.

As a city, Page is not something to write home about. It is located on a hilltop with an uncharming main street with hotels, petrol tanks, restaurants and supermarkets. A boring city surrounded by a nature area in a class of its own.

Toadstool Rimrock

Now another fantastic nature area has been "shot up" - or been discovered. Just outside Page, the 'Bureau of Land Management' (BLM) has chosen to make Toadstool Rimrock famous. For several years, it has only been known by especially photographers and road trip enthusiasts like myself.

Only a few knew that you had to keep an eye on road sign no. 21 and then park in the discount. One would then have to look for a small path that would lead one up into the area. Last year, BLM chose to establish a small car park and put up a sign outside at Highway 89. If you pass, you should set aside a few hours.

Toadstool Rimrock has a combination of many good elements. The area is incredibly beautiful, easily accessible and is located on a popular roadtrip route. In Toadstool Rimrock you will find millions of years old so-called Hoodies. Many of these have features that make one think of toadstools. The colors in the Rimrock layers are mostly white and reddish brown.

An enchanting combination

On the trip to Toadstool Rimrock in the US, it is definitely recommended to see these three areas First Red ToadstoolWhite Toadstool og White Toadstool Valley. On the latter you will find the most beautiful whites Hoodies in combination with wild flowers and beautiful plateaus. The many colors make the whole area incredibly photographic, not least at sunset.

From the trailhead it only takes 20 minutes to walk up the plateau. Just follow the dried 'wash', ie the gutter the water creates when it runs down the mountain. Toadstool is still not overrun. In Easter 2017, there were only 8-10 people, but that will probably change soon.

There are several different ways to get to Toadstool Rimrock. You can, among other things fly to Las Vegas and start your trip here.

Really good road trip in USA!
