Idre Fjäll – active holiday in the heart of Sweden

A good 10 hour drive from Denmark almost halfway up Sweden close to the border Norway lies Idre Fjäll. Ski enthusiasts make a pilgrimage here in winter, when the snow lies like a downy blanket over the valleys and mountains of Dalarna. It is a veritable slafferland for the snow lovers, who frolic merrily in the wide white expanses.

In summer, when the vast landscapes are green and lush, Idre Fjäll, on the other hand, is a slaffer country for everyone who loves to be active in nature without snow.

The green hills are perfect for cycling and hiking of all kinds, and when the weather is nice, there is plenty to do indoors. If the family is going on holiday together, then Idre Fjäll is definitely worth a visit in the summer. It may even end up becoming addictive.

Hiking and cycling in Idre Fjäll

Idre Fjäll is especially perfect for those who love hiking and walking tours. Take a trip in the mountains and enjoy the unique view of the area. The nature here is completely untouched, and you can see forests, lakes, mountains and, not least, reindeer while breathing in the fresh air.

On the many different hiking routes, there is the possibility of both physically demanding hikes and more relaxing walks. And you can book a local guide if you want a guided tour. The advantage of being in a ski area in the summer is that you can take the ski lift to the top and then hike down – or just enjoy the view.

Are you more for cycling, Idre Fjäll is perfect for cycling trips. Here, too, there are different routes with different levels of difficulty, and you can safely take the whole family along. There must be something for everyone.

For example, take a leisurely trip to the top of the mountains and enjoy the beautiful view. If you are more of an adrenaline seeker, you can put on weight off road-tours or cycling via Downhill- the trails. There are many different bikes to rent, and you can also book an instructor for the tours.

Go on a beaver safari

Get an exquisite experience on the water on a so-called beaver safari. Here you paddle around a beautiful Swedish lake, where you can spot beavers in the water if you're lucky. Beavers are particularly active just before sunset.

The trip is a half-day trip of around four hours, and along the way you can take a 'fika' – a Swedish coffee break – on one of the small islands. Even if you are unlucky not to meet the beavers, the trip will be a completely unique and memorable experience; Idre Fjäll has many of this kind.

On the beaver tour, you learn a lot about the life and behavior of beavers, and it is really educational to spend a few hours in the beaver's kingdom.

The beaver safari is for the whole family, and it does not require you to be used to paddling. Book a guided tour if necessary. For the more adrenaline-seeking, it is also possible to go river-rafting in the area.

Meet the husky dogs

If you are a true animal lover, you must definitely meet the husky dogs. The dogs were born and raised in the area, they love people and are very cuddly. Some of the dogs are used to doing different activities with people, and the husky activities are clearly worth getting involved in.

A very special experience are the so-called 'footbike tours with husky', where you are pulled along by a sled dog at full speed on a mixture of a scooter and a bicycle. It's not quite for young children, but it's fun and a little wild.

The Husky sled dogs also like to come along for a hike, an activity that is more for children. The little ones are allowed to hold onto the same dog leash as an adult, so that the dog does not pull away too violently.

Activities with the dogs can be booked for anyone aged 12 and over. The experiences are very unique both for people and not least the animals, who are well looked after and live in a good environment. In winter, of course, you can also go dog sledding with the huskies.

Idre Fjäll is not just for dogs; horses also live here. They make it possible all year round to go out riding in the beautiful green surroundings.

Get a rush on the treetop course

In the middle of Idre Fjäll is the very popular 'treetop track'. The course has three different courses at different levels. While the smallest and easiest course is perfect for the kids, the hardest course is perfect for those who love to feel the adrenaline pumping.

From the tree-top course, there is also a perfect view of the area, and you can spot both the cyclists and the horses. Again, there is the option to book an instructor who can take you on the trip, which takes a few hours.

After a trip in the heights, you can enjoy a lunch, a small snack or coffee at the café attached. Close to the treetop course, you will also find other outdoor activities such as shooting, golf and tennis, so there is plenty to do.

Indoor activities in Idre Fjäll Activity Centre

If the weather gods are not with you, or if you just need to be inside for a bit, Idre Fjäll has an indoor activity center with lots of fun activities for young and old.

The house has a pool area with a nice sauna, badminton courts, table tennis tables and a fitness center. In addition, there are some popular bowling alleys where you must remember to book in advance. In the evening there is disco bowling with music and disco lights.

For the children, there is a creative corner, a sports hall and a playroom in the activity house. Close to this is a café with soft drinks, snacks, coffee and cake. Can you wish for more?
