Start the journey to Northern Ireland here

Few places in Europe are as picturesque as Northern Ireland, and a perfect place to start your journey around Northern Ireland is the city of Newcastle. This beautiful city has a lot to offer. I stayed at the Slieve Donard Hotel, which is a hotel that has a perfect location next to the coast and is also very close to a golf course. At the hotel itself, you can enjoy yourself in the hotel's fine spa area.

If you are more into adventure and fresh air, you can borrow a bike and take a trip to Tollymore Forest park. We did that.

Here you will be able to recognize various locations from TV series such as Game of Thrones, The Fall and Dublin Murders, as the park is often used for filming.

All in all, there is plenty to catch up on for TV series fans in Northern Ireland.

Linen Mill Studios – behind the scenes of Game of Thrones

Et must for all Game of Thrones fans is a visit to Linen Mill Studios. Here you really step into the world of Westeros, and you can see and experience several of the costumes and sets that were used for the filming.

Also get a unique insight into what happened behind the scenes. Without giving too much away, I can say that there is also a fantastic surprise waiting right at the start.

Not far from there, you have the opportunity to visit the famous Winterfell Castle and test your skills in archery and ax throwing.

Titanic Belfast – exploring the legend

If you are fascinated by the Titanic, you should book a room at the Titanic hotel in Belfast, the capital of Northern Ireland. The hotel is located in the former Harland & Wolff shipyard, where the world-famous ship was designed and built. You can experience the exclusive collection of art heritage and see some of the original objects used in the ship's design and architecture.

Directly opposite the hotel is the Titanic Museum, where you can learn more about the history of the Titanic. Get closer to the passengers and workers who were on board and get to know them.

The museum is loyally dedicated to the famous ship and its ill-fated maiden voyage. Outside the museum, you can visit the ship SS Nomadic, which sailed guests out to the Titanic when they were boarding, and which is now the last remaining member of the White Star Line family.

Giant's Causeway – Northern Ireland's own natural wonder

If you are a nature lover, then you must definitely take a walk around the Giant's Causeway on the north coast of Northern Ireland. I was very surprised by the beautiful view of the black stone columns, which have arisen after volcanic eruptions. Make sure you bring a good jacket, because the wind here is quite strong.

Close to here you will also find the fine Ballintoy Harbor with the beautiful beach and the caves, which have also been a location for filming for Game Of Thrones.

The Giant's Causeway is truly a unique area.

Derry/Londonderry - heavy history and schoolgirls on TV

Whether you're a fan of the TV series Derry Girls or not, don't miss this beautiful city which has quite an interesting history. Here you really get Northern Ireland under your skin, also with the historical conflicts that have been in the area.

I would recommend taking a guided tour through the city to take in as much as possible.

Hear about the Derry Walls, the Peace Bridge and more exciting places and learn more about the relationships that separated the city in its time. If you are a true Derry Girls fan then take a trip past the Derry Girls mural. Then you can enjoy a cup afternoon tea with the Derry girls at the Everglades hotel.
