Menorca: Sunny experiences in the middle of the Mediterranean, is written by Aya Li Skafte-Holm in cooperation with Purobeach, who had invited us along on the journey. All opinions are, as always, the author's own.
Menorca or Mallorca - which should you choose?
Menorca, not Mallorca. Yes, you heard right. A little north-east of the well-known holiday island of Mallorca, you can travel to Menorca, a little pearl full of experiences in the middle the Mediterranean .
Menorca has all the experiences that Mallorca offers and more: white sandy beaches with turquoise blue water, architecture in a class of its own and atmospheric harbor towns with authentic restaurants inspired by classic food and wine from the Catalan kitchen.
Menorca: Sunny slow life paradise in the middle of the Mediterranean
With its 702 km², Menorca is significantly smaller than Mallorca and has an average of 2.500 hours of sunshine per year. Although Menorca is only one-fifth the size of Mallorca, the island actually has more beach than the neighboring islands of Mallorca and Ibiza combined – a true holiday paradise, and this makes the island an obvious holiday destination for both adults and children.
If you ask the Catalan people, they would prefer to travel to Menorca over Mallorca and describe the island as more authentic and relaxing. A trip to Menorca invites you to 'slow life', where you can recharge and discover the island's many hidden wonders and sights.
If you are looking for an authentic and quiet holiday destination with many hours of sunshine, sandy beaches, food, culture and exciting experiences, read on here, where I will tell you about my trip and share my best travel tips and experiences for Menorca.
AluaSoul Menorca: How high quality and service go hand in hand
When I arrived in Menorca, which is only a short hour's flight away Barcelona, a driver was waiting to drive me to the hotel AluaSoul Menorca. A four-star adult hotel located in the southernmost part of the island in S'Algar. The drive was 20 minutes and quickly over.
At AluaSoul, I was greeted at the reception by Raquel, who is the hotel's manager desk manager. When I spoke to Raquel, I immediately felt welcome and her good mood rubbed off on me.
I could feel how passionate she is about her work. It reflected the fantastic service, which is something I would particularly like to highlight at AluaSoul – top service across the board. It just makes the stay many times better and made it a fantastic experience.
I checked into a suite with a sea view, private pool and a luxurious room with attached mini kitchen, bathroom and chill out area, which was a really good experience.
AluaSoul is modern and the facilities are adapted to all needs with two outdoor swimming pools, a spa with hot tub, massage service and indoor pool, a fitness room and several exciting dining options. AluaSoul is the perfect base for a relaxing holiday.
Relaxation in Menorca: Sea views, cocktails and Catalan-inspired gastronomy
Purobeach forms AluaSoul's outdoor pool area with sea views. From the moment I stepped into Purobeach, I could feel the relaxing atmosphere in luxurious surroundings.
Imagine swimming in the sea one moment, jumping into the pool the next, then lying on a soft sunbed while enjoying a delicious cocktail. That's exactly what I did and that's what's so unique about Purobeach.
Purobeach also has an attached restaurant, where the food can be described as food from Catalan cuisine with an international twist. Here you will find traditional Catalan dishes such as 'patatas bravas', but also other dishes such as poke bowl with fresh tuna. Of course paired with well-chosen Spanish wines.
Even if you live somewhere else in Menorca, you can still sample the delights; outside guests also have the opportunity to enjoy Purobeach, where you can book sunbeds in different sizes and varieties.

My best recommendations on Menorca: Day trip to Binebeca
Is your trip to Menorca? I have collected my four best recommendations for an authentic experience of the island's many wonders, so that you can embark on some exciting experiences when you land on this beautiful island.
Binibeca is a charming fishing village built in traditional style with narrow streets and the characteristic small white clay houses. Explore the city and find little secret bathing spots where you can sunbathe and swim in the crystal clear water.
The town also offers cozy cafes and restaurants where you can enjoy local delicacies and dishes such as lobster paella. Binibeca is the perfect place to relax and experience the authentic Menorcan atmosphere, which is a very special experience.
Swim at Punta Prima
Punta Prima is one of Menorca's most popular beaches and known for its crystal clear water and fine white sand. The beach is perfect for both relaxation and snorkeling, where you can explore the rich underwater life.
With its calm atmosphere and cozy beach bars and restaurants, Punta Prima invites families and couples alike to spend a relaxing day by the water. Enjoy the view of the nearby island of Illa de l'Aire with the iconic lighthouse which completes the beautiful coastline.
Take a walk in Mahón's old town
Take a journey back in time by visiting Mahón's Old Town, where history meets modern life. The narrow cobbled streets are flanked by charming little buildings, baroque churches and cozy cafes.
Visit the impressive Church of Santa Maria and be mesmerized by the architecture of the Casa Consistorial. Mahón's old town is a place where you can really feel Menorca's rich cultural heritage and experience architectural gems.
Drink a cocktail at Cova d'en Xoroi
Menorca also offers a very special experience. Imagine a cocktail bar carved into the rock overlooking the Mediterranean. This is exactly what Cova d'en Xoroi is.
Here you can enjoy world-class cocktails to subtle beats in golden colors of the sunset. 'Cova d'en Xoroi' translates from Catalan to Xorois Cave. Legend has it that a pirate named Xoroi once hid in this rock cave after surviving a shipwreck.
