Grossglockner- Hochalpenstrasse
If you are looking for nature experiences in SalzburgerLand with a wow effect, then you must see Großglockner, Austria's highest mountain. One of the easiest ways to experience the mountain is by taking the Großglockner-Hochalpenstraße – or Grossglockner High Alpine Way in English. The route winds its way up to a height of several thousand meters and offers a panoramic view of the Alps that will take your breath away.
On the drive to the top, you can stop at several viewpoints where the mountains rise majestically around you. If you are lucky, you may also see the 'Big Five of the Alps': golden eagle, ibex, marmot, chamois and bearded vulture. There are particularly good chances of seeing them in the Hohe Tauern National Park, at the heart of which the Großglockner is located, and there are especially good chances on the Großglockner-Hochalpenstraße.
The route is basically open from the beginning of May to the end of November, so it is the perfect nature experience if you are on summer holiday in SalzburgerLand, or if you want to explore the area's magnificent nature in late spring or autumn.

The Krimml waterfalls – one of the greatest natural experiences in SalzburgerLand
The Krimml Falls are nothing less than Europe's largest and are a very impressive sight. You really feel the power of nature when you stand in front of the 380 meter high waterfall, where the water rumbles down the cliff sides. The waterfall is located in the Hohe Tauern National Park, and it is one of the spectacular natural experiences that you simply must not miss in SalzburgerLand.
Take the hiking trail up along the waterfall through the surrounding forest as the clear water roars in your ears as your companion. On the tour, you walk along both the lower, middle and right up to the upper waterfall, and there are plenty of lookout points along the way where you can really admire the beautiful waterfalls.
Krimml is said to even have healing powers. The 'dust rain' from the waterfall should have a positive effect on both asthma and allergies. If you are looking for nature experiences and activities in SalzburgerLand that will blow you away, the Krimml waterfalls should definitely have a place on your list.

Tappenkarsee and other beautiful ones mountain lakes
Is there anything more idyllic than standing at the foot of a mirror-like mountain lake and watching the majestic peaks reflected in the clear water? No, right? And fortunately there is plenty of opportunity to experience that in SalzburgerLand, because there are over 250 mountain lakes in this part of Austria.
Tapperkarsee is the highest lake in the Eastern Alps, and it is a breathtaking sight. The lake is surrounded by mountain peaks and trees, which form an idyllic setting for the beautiful lake. If you visit the Tapperkarsee, it is definitely worth combining it with a hike to the Jägersee. That way you can experience two beautiful alpine lakes in one day.
Of course, there are also other lakes that are worth a visit. There is, for example, the well-known Wolfgangsee, where there is also ample opportunity for a multitude of water activities, or the beautiful mountain lake Seewaldsee. And then of course there is also Zeller See with the cozy town of Zell am See.
You can both swim and do other water fun on several of the lakes. However, you must be prepared that the water can be quite cold - yes, you can call it refreshing - as the water comes from the melted snow and the glaciers, among other things.

See nature experiences in SalzburgerLand from above
If your legs are tired after the many activities and hikes in nature, here comes a nature experience in SalzburgerLand, where you are allowed to rest your legs while one nature experience after another presents itself to you.
The Schafbergbahn is Austria's steepest cog railway, which takes you up over 35 meters in just 1.200 minutes. The trip up the mountain is a journey in itself. As the train slowly works its way up the steep incline, the landscape opens up with breathtaking views of the lake and surrounding mountains.
At the top, a 360-degree panoramic view of the famous lake Wolfgangsee, the Dachstein glacier and even the Watzmann mountain on the other side of the border in Germany awaits.

Liechtensteinklamm – when you're looking for family-friendly experiences in the Alps
With its deep valleys, high rock walls and the rippling river that cuts through the landscape, one is easily enchanted by the Liechtensteinklamm gorge. The dramatic gorge is one of the longest and deepest gorges in the Alps with a depth of 300 metres. It is open to visitors from April to October, weather permitting, and can be accessed from the town of St. Johann in Pongau.
The route through the Liechtenstein Gorge takes you close to cliff sides and over bridges where you can really feel the raw power of the elements and see how the power of water has shaped this beautiful area. Along the way, you can stop at several viewpoints and let yourself be absorbed by the roar of the water and the magnificent scene of the canyon. It is undoubtedly one of the nature experiences in SalzburgerLand that you must not miss.

The Salzachklamm gorge
Although the Liechtenstein Gorge is larger, don't miss out on a visit to the Salzachklamm Gorge. The raw and wild nature creates an impressive backdrop for your hike through the mountain landscape, and it feels a bit like walking through a mystical wonderland.
But the Salzachklamm is more than just beautiful scenery. There is also plenty of opportunity to bring out the smiles and quench the thirst for adventure on the long cable car that takes you through the gorge. It's a completely unique way to experience this scenic spot, and both young and old can join in. Then it is one of the activities in SalzburgerLand that tickles the stomach.
The gorge is located by the town of Golling, which is about half an hour south of the big city of Salzburg, and is therefore a perfect day trip. Besides the gorge, you can also see the Golling waterfall, which is 10 minutes away by car and an hour and a half on foot. In this way, you can combine two fantastic nature experiences and activities in SalzburgerLand at once.
