Hotel Beethoven – experience the soul of Vienna with a unique overnight stay in the heart of the city is written by The editorial staff, RejsRejsRejs. RejsRejsRejs was invited by Hotel Beethoven Wien. All opinions are, as usual, those of the editors.
Music between bricks – a stay at Hotel Beethoven in Vienna
Vienna is a city that lives and breathes culture. You can already feel it in the streets around Naschmarkt, where classical music, coffeehouse traditions and historic institutions coexist.
Therefore, it is also obvious that your accommodation in Vienna should bear the mark of the same culture. You can experience exactly that at Hotel Beethoven in Vienna, a small boutique hotel in the middle of the city that gives you a unique insight into the soul of the city.
Let yourself be awakened by the gentle tones of music
The hotel is named after Beethoven – and it’s not just a name for the sake of a name. The atmosphere and decor are complete from the moment you walk through the door and greet the statue of the famous composer.
The hotel features a beautiful Bösendorfer grand piano in the lounge, which previously belonged to the owner's mother, who was herself a skilled pianist. Today, the beautiful grand piano is used for the small, intimate concerts the hotel holds on weekends.
The intimate weekend concerts feature highly skilled musicians, playing everything from classical works to more niche compositions. The concerts are voluntary to participate in – and free when you stay at the hotel – but they give the hotel a special soul that you don't find in many places.
I personally experienced one of those intimate concerts, where two classical musicians filled their lungs with works by some of Vienna's great composers. It was one of those experiences where the present suddenly feels like the only thing that exists.
The breakfast is composed to perfection and gives a feeling of living out Edvard Grieg's classic 'Morning Mood'; if you don't already know this, I would suggest you start every morning to this song.
At breakfast, classical music plays in the background and you have a view of the Theater an der Wien while you enjoy a wonderful breakfast buffet. You can order eggs and other delicious dishes from a separate menu. There is even bubbles on the buffet if you want to start the day a little festively – you are in Vienna after all.
Hotel Beethoven has a location that makes the trip easy
The Hotel Beethoven is ideally located if you want a hotel in Vienna with a central location. On one side is the Naschmarkt and on the other is the Theater an der Wien. The Vienna State Opera, the MuseumsQuartier and Karlsplatz are all within walking distance.
The exciting Albertina art museum is just a few minutes' walk away, as is the Museum of Art History Vienna. It's also just a short walk to some of Vienna's most iconic coffee houses, where you can enjoy a piece of cake and a lovely cup of coffee in the most beautiful historical settings.
Hotel Beethoven's location in Vienna makes it easy to slip into the city in the morning and find your way back home without having to plan transportation. However, the hotel feels much quieter than the surrounding area. When the doors close behind you, the pace slows down and you get a break from the city's pulse.
Every floor of Hotel Beethoven tells a story
One of the most distinctive features of the hotel is that each floor is dedicated to a part of Vienna's cultural history. On some floors you will meet the café writers, on others Beethoven's contemporaries or artists who have left their mark on the city.
Each room is individually decorated and named after a person from the city's cultural world, and there are quotes or short stories from the person the room is dedicated to hanging, making it clear that something has been done with the concept. It is done in a way that is discreet but complete. It gives the hotel personality without being overbearing.
Hotel Beethoven has a total of 47 rooms in four different categories, so there are rooms for every need – of course, each with its own unique decor and dedication to one of Vienna's cultural personalities.

A hotel in Vienna with soul
Hotel Beethoven is housed in a 1800th-century building, built during a period when Vienna was growing and developing significantly around the Ringstraße. The building housed both craftsmen and musicians long before it became a hotel, and the historic atmosphere still lingers in the walls, making the place feel magically rooted in the city.
Hotel Beethoven is family-owned, and you can feel it in everything from the atmosphere to the way the staff greets you. The service is friendly and personal, and the staff is happy to make recommendations for restaurants or great experiences in Vienna.
The hotel bar, Lvdwig Bar, is a cozy place to land at the end of the day. It is relaxed and has a cozy lounge atmosphere. In the afternoon, coffee and cake are served to hotel guests in the lounge with the old grand piano, where you can read the day's newspaper or just rest your legs on the soft sofas after a day full of adventures.
It is an obvious choice of accommodation in Vienna if you value culture, tranquility and a personal atmosphere over large chain hotels. It is ideal for couples, solo travelers and anyone who wants a central accommodation in Vienna without sacrificing presence and authenticity.
Experiences in Vienna – just around the corner
As mentioned, several of the city's most interesting places and experiences are just a few minutes' walk from Hotel Beethoven, making it an ideal starting point for a city break.
We visited Vienna at Christmas time, where the lights, music and small stalls give the city a particularly magical atmosphere. The Christmas markets can be busy, but they are also atmospheric – especially in the evening, when the scent of glühwein mixed with the light from the stalls.
The hotel is within walking distance of many of the markets, making it easy to immerse yourself in the city's special winter energy. It's also just a short walk to the city's shopping streets, where you can buy Christmas gifts to take home – or maybe a little something for yourself.
Naschmarkt is just around the corner, and here you can explore market stalls and small eateries, while being carried away by the smells from the kitchens and a constant buzz of life. Perfect for both morning coffee and late lunch.
One of the world's most famous opera houses is also just around the corner, the Vienna State Opera. Even if opera isn't high on your list, it's worth taking a tour of the Vienna State Opera, and if you want to see a performance, standing room tickets are surprisingly cheap and can be purchased on the day.
Another surprising attraction within walking distance is Austria National Library. And before you think: “A library? That sounds so boring”, it’s not the books that you should visit this library for – although there are some unique books on the shelves. It’s the architecture that will blow you away here.
Other highlights located near this accommodation in Vienna are the MuseumsQuartier, Karlskirche and Belvedere, all within walking distance.
