The Standard Hotel Bangkok Mahanakhon – a design hotel in the middle of the city

In the middle of Bangkok's bustling Silom district and right next to the Chong Nonsi BTS station lies one of the city's most spectacular hotels: The Standard Hotel Bangkok MahanakhonThe hotel is housed in the distinctive King Power Mahanakhon building, which with its pixel-like architecture has changed Bangkok's Buenos Aires and probably the most beautiful skyscraper throughout Bangkok.

Here you don't just get a place to stay, but an experience in itself. It's a hotel with colors, shapes and lots of personality. A place where the city is just outside – but where you can still retreat to peace, luxury and surprising details.

The editorial team visited the hotel in December 2025, and here are our hotel check-in tips for one of the city's hottest hotels.

Welcome to The Standard

When you enter the lobby and the café next door, you immediately sense that you have not landed in a classic city hotel.

Everything is designed with a twinkle in the eye and attention to detail, and you can't help but notice the colorful interior, the soft shapes and unexpected angles. The walls are round, the furniture has character, and the colors are anything but neutral.

The design, created in collaboration with Spanish designer Jaime Hayon, features a mix of retro, modern art and playful details. It's both tasteful and relaxed - a bit like a gallery you'd want to live in.

The atmosphere is international and informal. The staff is welcoming, approachable and curious about the guests. You quickly feel at home even in the midst of all the stylishness.

The rooms at The Standard Hotel Bangkok Mahanakhon – this is what you should choose

The rooms at The Standard are exactly what you hope for when you check into a design hotel with personality. They are different – but not just for the sake of being smart. They are designed with comfort, ambiance and details in mind that make you feel at home from the moment you step inside.

Each room is designed with a clear idea: to be more than just a place to sleep. The large floor-to-ceiling windows fill the rooms with light and give you a feeling of being connected to the city outside. Whether you stay on the 8th or 14th floor, the view is part of the experience.

The decor is bold and inviting. There are soft rugs in deep shades, organic furniture, quirky details and color combinations you didn't know you liked but just work. The rooms feel like small works of art without being pretentious.

Watch the video here.

You can choose from several room types depending on your needs and budget.

The smaller rooms, like the Standard King, are smart and functional without feeling cramped. Here you get a comfortable bed, space to work, a place to relax and plenty of storage – and of course the hotel's signature details like Bang & Olufsen speakers, a minibar with local snacks and fragrant bath products. Oh yeah, and of course automatic Japanese toilets, and a curtain solution most people dream of at home.

If you want to upgrade, you can choose a Suite or a Corner Room, where you get even more space and a freestanding bathtub positioned with a view of the city. It’s a luxury you’ll appreciate – especially if you’re traveling as a couple. There are also suites with a sofa area and desk, which are ideal for those who want to combine work and relaxation.

We just stayed in a corner room, where you are served the most amazing city views from several sides. See for yourself here.

The bathrooms also deserve praise. They are spacious and stylish with rain showers, nice lighting and mirrors that are actually good to use. It is the kind of bathroom where you want to take your time – and that in itself is a luxury.

All in all, the rooms are an important part of The Standard's DNA. They don't feel like hotel rooms – they feel like a place created to be used, experienced and remembered.

The pool at The Standard Hotel Bangkok Mahanakhon

The pool area on the 6th floor is one of the places where The Standard really shows its versatility. Here you can both find peace and be part of something lively. It all depends on the time and mood. Watch the video here.

The pool is actually surprisingly large for a city hotel in BangkokIt's long enough for you to swim laps at leisure in the morning, when the sun is still low and the city is waking up. The water is clear and temperate, and there's plenty of space – even when there are guests at the edge of the pool.

Around the pool you'll find colorful sun loungers, small parasols and an interior that's as playful as the rest of the hotel, giving it a tropical film set feel.

The area gets more lively on weekends when the DJ plays lounge music and guests enjoy cocktails and light snacks from the bar. But even when the atmosphere is loud, it's still pleasant. The music is adjusted and there's a good balance between liveliness and relaxation.

There is also space for families with children during the day, and the staff is aware of who is using the area and when. This means that you as a guest can find the pace that suits you, whether it's relaxing with a book or a social afternoon with drinks and good music.

In short: The pool is not just beautiful to look at – it is also swim-friendly and an experience in itself.

Restaurant Ojo: Michelin in The Standard Hotel Bangkok Mahanakhon

On the 76th floor, Restaurant Ojo is a culinary experience that will satisfy, impress and surprise. Located almost at the top of the Mahanakhon building, the restaurant has one of the most spectacular views of Bangkok. As soon as you step out of the elevator, you can feel that you are entering a place where everything has been thought of.

The cuisine is modern Mexican with roots in classic Latin American flavors, but everything is interpreted with finesse and respect for the ingredients. We had dishes like citrus and chili ceviche, lobster tacos, and the tender wagyu beef. The food is extraordinarily delicious, and the presentation is as aesthetic as the building it is served in.

The drinks match: You can choose from an exciting selection of mezcal and tequila or be surprised by wines from smaller producers and well-composed cocktails. There are also delicious mocktails without alcohol.

The service is sublime. The service is both personal and professional, and you feel seen without being overwhelmed. The pace is precise, fast without being rushed and with plenty of time to make recommendations and answer questions. It is clear that the staff is passionate about what they do.

Ojo is also recognized with the Michelin Bib Gourmand, which is an award given to restaurants with high quality at a reasonable price. And it feels fully deserved. Here, atmosphere, food and service come together in a higher unity. It is on the high end of Bangkok in terms of price, but the quality follows.

The view of the city completes the experience. As darkness falls and the lights come on in Bangkok, the surroundings become part of the experience. It's a dinner you'll remember and a place you'll want to return to.

The restaurants at The Standard Hotel Bangkok Mahanakhon: Mott 32, The Parlor, The Standard and Sky Beach

In addition Michelin-restaurant Ojo The Standard has several places to eat and drink, each with its own atmosphere and strength. You don't even have to leave the hotel to enjoy a variety of high-quality tastes; they're just around the corner from your room.

Mott 32 is the hotel's Asian gourmet restaurant. It is stylish, understated and truly delicious. The menu is based on classic Chinese cuisine, but with modern techniques and delicious ingredients. Here you will get dim sum with truffle, crispy Peking duck and wok dishes with a taste that you rarely encounter. All served in beautiful surroundings with dark wood, subdued lighting and details that create calm and elegance.

Remember to ask the waiter about their own favorites – this little trick often pays off, and it did here too.

The Standard – the hotel’s main restaurant – is a more informal experience. It feels a bit like stepping into a relaxed, smart café in New York with its combination of warm tones, green plants and an international menu. Here you can eat breakfast, lunch and simple, delicious evening meals in a cozy setting, and here too the level of service and food is at the high end. See for yourself here. Lovely.

Breakfast is served as a buffet combined with á la carte, and it is varied and fresh. There are both Asian and Western dishes, good juices, fresh fruit and good coffee choices.

You can choose to sit inside in the soft lounge atmosphere or out on the adjacent terrace, where you get the morning sun and a look at the rhythm of the city. It makes for a quiet and nice start to the day even in a city like Bangkok. We ate out on the terrace both days, and it was the perfect mix of peace and city.

The Parlor serves as a café and bar during the day. Here you can enjoy a cappuccino in the morning, a cocktail in the evening, or just relax with a glass of wine and some light food. The atmosphere is relaxed, with soft sofas, dim lighting and often live music that adds to the pleasant pulse.

At the top of the hotel you’ll find Sky Beach – Bangkok’s highest outdoor bar. With 360-degree views of the city, fresh air and good energy, it’s the place for sunset drinks, light snacks and those moments where you feel like you’re far from home – in the best way possible.

Mahanakhon Skywalk – view and adrenaline in one

If you dare, don't miss the Mahanakhon Skywalk, also called King Power Mahanakhon Skywalk after the shopping center in the building next to The Standard Hotel Bangkok Mahanakhon.

Mahanakhon Skywalk is Bangkok's highest viewpoint, and it's a wild experience you should make a priority to experience at least once.

The Skywalk consists of a glass platform 314 meters above the ground, where you can stand and look directly down at the city streets, train tracks and buildings. It is both transcendent and fantastic. You feel the adrenaline, but also a calmness, because the view is so overwhelming that it all feels a little unreal.

There are also several large lounge areas with music and a small bar, so if you don't feel like going out onto the glass floor, you don't have to. See for yourself here in our little video.

During the day you get a panoramic view of all of Bangkok, and at sunset the light is golden and magical. But the best time to go up there is actually later in the evening – preferably after 22pm, when most of the day visitors are gone and there is plenty of space to enjoy the city lights and the glass floor in peace and quiet.

As a hotel guest, you get free access to the Mahanakhon Skywalk, making it easy to pop up after dinner or a drink. You can even grab a cocktail at Sky Beach and enjoy the view with a glass in hand.

Low, atmospheric lounge music is played, and it all feels almost meditative, especially when the city sparkles beneath you and you feel like you're floating in the middle of the big city.

If you are an adrenaline junkie, you can also try getting outside the building in the so-called 'tilt machine' – it's pretty wild just to look at, and we happily opted out of it.

Mahanakhon Skywalk is an experience you won't forget and a perfect end to a day in The Standard's colorful and surprising universe.

Have a great stay at The Standard Hotel Bangkok Mahanakhon and Have a nice trip to Bangkok i Thailand.
