What to experience in the Middle East?
The Middle East is an area full of history and cultural treasures. You will find, among other things, one of the seven wonders of the world - the ancient city of Petra in Jordan. Egypt is a treasure trove of archaeological finds, and here you can really feel the whir of history as you explore some of the ancient gems.
Neighboring Saudi Arabia also offers a wealth of memorable experiences. For example, you can visit Al Ula, known for its archaeological treasures and spectacular landscapes.
An obvious way to go on an adventure in the Middle East's fascinating cultural treasures and historical destinations is on a round trip, where you can combine comfort and adventure. You can, for example, take one tour to the Middle East, and where experienced tour guides ensure that you get unforgettable travel memories home in your suitcase.
You will get some of the greatest experiences for your tour of the Middle East in these countries.
Cultural treasures of the Middle East: Jordan's pearl Petra
The first stop on the journey in the Middle East is the historic ancient city of Petra. This historic site is one of the Seven Wonders of the World, and when you wander around the town carved into the surrounding red rock walls, you'll understand why.
You will be gripped by adventure and mystery when you explore Petra's most famous cultural treasures such as Al-Khazneh, Ad-Deir and the royal tombs. The journey into Petra begins as soon as you begin the walk through the Siq – a narrow, winding gorge between impressive red rock walls that jut into the sky.
Petra is undoubtedly a highlight of your trip to the Middle East, and a trip to Jordan's biggest attraction will fill your suitcase with unforgettable travel memories.
Aqaba: Relax on the Jordan Coast
Aqaba is Jordan's only port city located on the Red Sea. Here you can both relax by the water and enjoy the city's relaxing atmosphere, shop at one of the traditional markets or visit the city's cultural treasures. It is the perfect break on your tour of the Middle East.
The city is known for its beautiful beaches, so if you are a water dog, Aqaba's crystal clear waters are just the thing for you, inviting you to swim, snorkel and dive.
The city also offers historical experiences such as the Aqaba Fort, which is definitely worth a visit if you want to delve into the history of the place.
Experience Jordan's beautiful nature and culture at Dana Village
Dana Village is an idyllic little village located in the Dana Biosphere Reserve in Jordan, from where you have a spectacular view of the lush valleys and deep canyons of the area.
The village is a wonderful respite from the busy markets and crowded streets of the larger cities of the Middle East and is the perfect place to experience Jordan's culture and wander the beautiful area. For example, you can explore the city's narrow streets while seeing Jordan's traditional houses.
You can also explore the surrounding hiking trails that take you through the tranquil, lush valleys and dramatic gorges that this beautiful area offers. Among other things, you can visit the village on a tour.
Tabuk and Mada'in Saleh in Saudi Arabia
In Tabuk in Saudi Arabia you will find the perfect combination of nature and culture.
The city has a long and rich history, and back in the day, Tabuk was an important stop on caravan routes between Medina and Damascus. Therefore, it is also an ideal stop for those who want to experience the history of Saudi Arabia on their tour of the Middle East.
One of the most famous attractions is Tabuk Fort, which was built in 1559 and was once part of the pilgrimage route to Mecca. Mada'in Saleh is a little further away from Tabuk, but is definitely worth a visit on your trip to Saudi Arabia. The site is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is home to ancient Nabataean tombs reminiscent of Petra in Jordan.
Mada'in Saleh is famous for its burial chambers and beautiful carved rock facades that provide an exciting insight into the Nabatean civilization.
Al ula
Al Ula is one of the places in Saudi Arabia with great historical and cultural significance. The city has been an important stop for caravans and has been inhabited for thousands of years. Al Ula is on the UNESCO World Heritage List and offers everything from cool nature experiences to fantastic cultural treasures.
As you enter Al Ula, you are immediately drawn to the magnificent reddish-brown rock formations that rise like natural monuments around you. Elephant Rock, or Jabal AlFil, is one of the most well-known of the Maroon Rocks and is a natural rock formation that – yes, you guessed it – looks like a giant elephant.
Another great natural experience in the area is Wadi Al Ula, which is a lush valley that stands in stark contrast to the surrounding desert. In addition to fascinating rock formations and lush valleys, Al Ula also offers cultural treasures that testify to the history of Saudi Arabia and the Middle East.
In the old town of Al Ula, explore the maze of mud-stone houses dating back to the 12th century. The streets are narrow and winding, and as you wander around you get a good sense of how the city was once the center of trade and community life.
Not far from Al Ula, you will also find the archaeological sites of Dadan and Ikmah, which give an insight into the ancient civilizations that once lived in the area. The Dadan Valley offers impressive tombs and temples, and in Ikmah, which is also called "Saudi Arabia's largest open library", you can see hundreds of rock inscriptions and petroglyphs that show life in ancient Arabia.
Taif in Saudi Arabia
A little outside Jeddah and Mecca is Taif, which is an obvious full-day trip from one of the two big cities. Known for its pleasant climate and beautiful landscapes, Taif is a refreshing break from the heat of the desert.
When you drive through the mountains and arrive in Taif, you immediately notice the lush landscapes and flower-covered hills that separate the city from the drier areas of the region.
The city's fragrant rose fields are an experience in themselves. It can be combined with a trip to the Al-Taif Rose Factory, where you can learn about the traditional production of rose water and perfume, which Taif er known for.
Also, don't miss out on a visit to the impressive Shubra Palace, which is built in traditional style with beautiful details and has a rich history.
Extend your tour of the Middle East to Egypt
Egypt hides some of the world's greatest cultural treasures, so if you would like to expand your trip with more historical adventures, it is obvious to take Egypt with you on the round trip to the Middle East.
There are many fantastic historical sites in Egypt, but the capital Cairo is clearly an obvious choice. Here you can visit the famous pyramids of Giza and the Egyptian Museum in Cairo.
Luxor is undoubtedly also worth a visit. This area is a paradise for history buffs, and it feels a bit like traveling back in time as you move around the many temples and the Valley of the Kings.
If, in addition to your trip to the Middle East, you also go to Egypt, it is of course obvious to end the trip with a few days of relaxation in Sharm El Sheikh or Hurghada.
