Sun, surf and sand
If you are looking for a vacation with it all in Morocco, then Agadir and Taghazout are some of the best places to visit.
These two cities have a lot to offer that make them perfect for a holiday on the Moroccan coast, including beautiful beaches, great weather and lots of water sports.
Experiences in Agadir
Agadir is a city with a rich culture and sights that are almost to fade over. Only three hours drive from Marrakesh you will find a more relaxed city with fewer tourists and colder temperature.
Here's what you see:
- The medina of Agadir is a maze of narrow streets with many small shops and stalls selling everything from local produce to finished crafts. From the medina you can also admire the whitewashed houses, which are especially recognizable in Morocco.
- The Moroccan fortress in Agadir, the Kasbah, stores many stories, and today the building is used for a school, museum and library.
- The marina stretches along Atlantic Sea between Agadir and Essaouira, and it is one of the largest marinas in Morocco with many luxury yachts. On the beach you can sunbathe, ride horses or camels, windsurf and stand on paddle board.
Get close to the locals in Taghazout
Taghazout is a small town just 30 minutes from the big city of Agadir. The city is located at the southernmost point of Taghazout Bay and is surrounded by spectacular scenery.
Taghazout is a popular tourist destination especially in the Danish summer months.
The village of Taghazout has many sights to explore:
- Taghazout Beach, which is famous for its white sand with crystal clear water. The beach is long and wide enough to accommodate large crowds. There are also plenty of activities on the beach, such as surfing and swimming in the sea or playing in the very large waves. This makes Taghazout in particular a perfect destination for surfers in Morocco.
- North of Taghazout is a lagoon where you can rent a canoe or kayak. The lagoon is home to many bird species, including flamingos and herons as well as aquatic animals such as dolphins and whales - if you are of course lucky enough to spot them.
- A few kilometers from Taghazout is an area of desert dunes, which can be explored by four-wheel drive vehicles or off-road motorcycles. Here you can really be allowed to get your heart rate up.
Luxury and surfing in Taghazout and Agadir
Taghazout and Agadir store in a lot of luxury places where you can be allowed to get right down to gear.
If you are on a holiday with a bit of everything, these hotels have a lot to offer:
- Hyatt Regency Hotel in Taghazout is an all-inclusive hotel with direct beach access. The hotel is new and has nice rooms overlooking the pool and beach.
- Radisson Blu Resort, Taghazout Bay Surf Village has the most idyllic wooden bungalows where you can rent all equipment for surfing and other activities at sea.
- Fairmont Taghazout Bay Hotel is one of the more luxurious hotels you will probably experience in Morocco. The hotel is divided with its own private villas and huge spa area, and you can easily take the whole family with you, because there is something for everyone.
- Sofitel Thalassa and Spa Hotel offers the most beautiful views. The hotel is decorated with many beautiful works of art, and then they have the most beautiful view of the sunset in the evening with seating in the front row.
Shopping in Souk El Had close to Agadir
Souk El Had is a traditional Moroccan marketplace located in Taghazout. The souk is filled with vendors selling everything from spices to lamps and clothes.
The market has simply EVERYTHING you can dream of and more - and you can even haggle over the prices.
Souk El Had is definitely a good place to visit on your vacation in Morocco, if you are looking for souvenirs or gifts to take home - the prices are also lower than the medina in Marrakesh.
Mountain goats and argan trees
Taghazout is known for its traditional argan oil production. The argan trees grow up in the mountains around Taghazout and the oil comes from their fruits.
If you drive up the mountains to visit the local producers, you can most often encounter the whimsical mountain goats relaxing in the argan trees - a very fun sight to meet as a tourist. As visitors to the country, Moroccans are very accommodating and like to show how argan oil is produced in the old-fashioned way - a really dedicated and detailed process.
As part of the local culture, it is often also common to be invited into their home, where you get the opportunity to taste their local bread, dipped in the various oils, along with a cup of mint tea.
The locals also still use donkeys to carry the fruits up into the mountains where they produce the famous oil. The production of argan oil is more than just a business for them; it is also part of their culture.
